Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy looks at your overall health - mental, physical and social. If you need some help with daily living tasks, an occupational therapist can assess your needs to identify the difficulties you're having and help you to overcome them.
Occupational therapists can help by:
- offering you advice on dressing, personal hygiene, preparing meals and drinks, getting on and off a chair, and getting into and out of bed
- working with you to find new ways of doing tasks
- providing specialist equipment, such as a shower chair or a mobile hoist
- providing minor adaptations, such as grab rails
- arranging major adaptations, such as ramps and stair lifts
- referring you to other services that can help, such as care managers or wheelchair services

Find a private occupational therapist
If you're looking for an occupational therapist to provide private treatment or independent advice, check the directory of occupational therapists in independent practice to find someone in your area. All those listed on the directory are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and are members of the specialist section of independent practitioners within the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
