Real nappy incentive scheme

By the time your baby is potty trained you could use 4000 to 6000 disposable nappies. We don't yet know the full environmental effect of these going to landfill.

A more environmentally friendly alternative is to use modern, cloth 'real nappies'. These are a similar size and shape to disposables, fasten with Velcro or poppers, and can save you money compared to the cost of buying disposable nappies.

As part of our commitment to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill, we offer a grant for eligible residents towards the cost of a birth-to-potty pack of cloth nappies.

Who can apply

You must live in the Barnsley Council local authority area to apply for the grant, and purchase a birth-to-potty pack of cloth nappies from a reputable supplier with a minimum purchase price £100.

What you'll receive

If you're eligible for the grant, we'll give you £40 towards the purchase of your birth-to-potty pack.

How to apply

You can apply for the grant by filling in our online form below. In the form you'll need to provide your bank sort code and account number where you'd like the grant to be paid into. You'll also need to upload:

  • proof you live in the Barnsley Council local authority area (eg Council Tax or utility bill, tenancy agreement, etc)
  • a copy of the receipt showing the purchase of your birth-to-potty pack
  • a bank statement dated within the last three months showing the account holder name, sort code and account number (you should redact/blank out all transaction details)

You need to submit your claim within six months of buying the birth-to-potty pack.
