Items with batteries and flammable liquids
You must remove all batteries and flammable liquids from items before disposal. Fire lighters and batteries left in toys, games controllers, TV remotes and mobile phones can cause fires at recycling and waste treatment centres.
Many shops which sell batteries have containers to dispose of old ones. There are also separate areas for them at our recycling centres. Find out more about recycling batteries.
Additional waste accepted at Worsbrough only
The following additional items are also accepted at Worsbrough recycling centre:
- Small amounts of clean plasterboard. Any material bonded to the plasterboard must be removed before disposal. In most cases this material can be put in a different recycling skip.
- Household chemicals/pesticides. You need to make a hazardous waste booking online before visiting, and can make a maximum of two bookings per year. See how to dispose of hazardous waste for more details.
- Small amounts of asbestos (terms apply). You need to make an asbestos booking online before visiting. See how to dispose of hazardous waste for details of how you must prepare and package the asbestos before disposal.
Waste not accepted at any of our recycling centres
We don't accept the following items at any of our recycling centres, including but not limited to:
- vehicle parts
- large amounts of building/construction waste or soil (if you have more than a car boot full you should hire a skip)
- large amounts of asbestos (eg from renovation work) - this is hazardous waste and you should find a specialist removal company who will take it away for you
- excessive amounts of waste
