Media we publish on our platforms
We take photos and videos of events across the borough all year round. We publish these on our website and social media channels, and images are sometimes used in printed materials such as leaflets or in local and national media.
If you see your image on something we've published and wish for it to be removed, please email informationrequests@barnsley.gov.uk.
We can only remove the original images or videos from our website and social media channels. We can't remove any copies of images from third parties, or printed materials that are already being used.
Photography and videography privacy notice
Photographs and video footage of people are considered a type of personal information.
We take photos and videos at our events and activities across the borough, and sometimes you might be able to identify a person within these. Any photos or videos will be taken using camera equipment, and this sometimes includes using smartphone cameras.
Our legal basis for processing your information
We collect and use photographs and videos in relation to our duties under one of the following legal bases. The one we use will depend on the circumstances in which we're using the photos:
- Article 6(1) (a) - consent - in some cases we may obtain direct consent from the person or a parent/guardian if images are captured of children. This may be necessary for images or videos captured at smaller events.
School trips - please note for school trips we'd expect the relevant schools to obtain consents for the children to have their images taken and alert the council to any that don't have consent or cannot have their image captured for safeguarding purposes. - Article 6(1) (f) - legitimate interests - in some cases we may have grounds to capture and share images and videos under its legitimate interests, such as to publicise events going on in the borough.
Please note that in public spaces, such as The Glass Works Square, there's no expectation of privacy and images may be captured without the need for consent or other legal basis. This is particularly the case where your image may be captured but it's not detailed enough to reveal your identity.
Who we might share your information with and why
We might share images and videos with local partners, schools and press for marketing purposes.
In some cases, we may need to share images and videos with the police for the prevention and detection of crime.
