Town Spirit

Looking after ourselves and each other

We support our communities to be stronger and resilient.

By working together and looking after each other, we can prevent people's needs becoming so great that they need higher level, specialist support.

We'll make sure everyone can get access to the support they need at the earliest possible stage, but we need you to keep your own and your family's health at its best.

Our commitment

  • Support people to get help early

  • Help elderly and disabled people to live independently at home for longer

  • Protect vulnerable people and children who are at risk of harm

  • Help you to stay healthy

  • Help you kick drugs, alcohol or crime

Speak Up is a joint project between IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) and Barnsley Council that encourages people to speak about issues in their relationship.

This year’s #SpeakUp valentine’s day event saw 250 red roses dropped across the borough signposting residents to support services available within Barnsley.

Find out more about Speak Up or call IDAS on 03000 110 110.

Armed forces

Armed Forces Day brings the community and armed forces together, overall encouraging people to show their support.

There was plenty of family-friendly fun to be had at the Penistone Showground event on Saturday 29 June 2019 to celebrate the amazing day.
