Investing in Cudworth

Cudworth Website Banner

Surrounded with beautiful countryside and with a charm all its own, Cudworth has a bustling town centre clustered around its attractive High Street.

You can grab a cuppa with a friend, stock up on household essentials or pick up a gift for someone special. The town’s proud community spirit shines through its many volunteer and social groups.

There are loads of walking routes in Cudworth and the surrounding area, with the Trans Pennine Trail cutting through the town. Carlton Marsh Nature Reserve is on the doorstep and the Cudworth Faces stone carvings at Storrs Mill Wood make for a fascinating visit. There are plenty of interesting landmarks and locations, including the roman bridge and Cudworth Park.

England cricketer Darren Gough, footballers David Hirst and Ralph O’Donnell and Olympic ice hockey player Archibald Stitchcombe are among the famous names linked to Cudworth. Sprinter Dorothy Hyman, who won silver and bronze at the Olympics, is honoured in the name of Cudworth’s Dorothy Hyman Stadium. The late chat show host and journalist Sir Michael Parkinson was born in Cudworth.

Shopfront grant scheme

Cudworth saw many improvements as a result of this grant scheme, which saw 55 businesses applying for and receiving funding.

We funded £225,723 through our Principal Towns and Local Centres programme, while businesses invested £68,660 into their own shops.

Public realm improvements

We got rid of a disused public toilet block on the high street and transformed the site into an attractive green space called St John’s Gardens.

Verges on Bow Street were replaced with block paving to create extra parking.

We also improved the gateway to Cudworth. We installed new bow top metal fencing in place of unattractive verges. We resurfaced Cudworth’s roundabout to improve sight lines and safety for road users.

Improving safety

We installed new CCTV cameras to the rear of shops and on the main high street area of Barnsley Road.

What we're going to do next

We're developing exciting plans for the next phase of Cudworth’s town centre regeneration under our Principal Towns and Local Centres Programme.

We’ve drawn up a new draft masterplan for Cudworth town centre focussed on improving public spaces helping our businesses and community to thrive and giving everyone a safe and pleasant shopping experience. We invited people to view and comment on this and we're in the process of reviewing feedback.
