Report dead animals

You can use our online form below to report a dead animal to us.

If it's causing an obstruction on a road or pavement, please call our 24 hour reporting line instead on (01226) 773555.

We'll remove dead animals from roads, footpaths and other council owned land in Barnsley within 48 hours of receiving your report. If it's on private land it's the landowners duty to deal with it and we'll try to contact them.

If you're a landowner and need our help to remove a dead animal you can contact us on our reporting line for advice. We charge to remove dead animals from private land. Charges will vary depending on the type of animal and the work involved in taking it away.

Reporting a dead animal

We need to know:

  • the exact location of the animal - the name of the road and the nearest house number or lamp post number
  • the type of animal
  • the colour and any identifying marks
  • whether it has a collar or tag

You don't have to tell us your name and contact details to make a report. It would however help to tell us in case we need more information from you.

Reporting a dead wild bird

You can report the following types of dead birds on the GOV.UK website:

  • swans
  • geese
  • ducks
  • gulls
  • birds of prey
