Councillor Sir Steve Houghton CBE, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: "Over the past 18 months, we've been working with the Sheffield and Hallamshire Motorclub, the organisers of a potential rally on closed roads in Penistone, to understand the impacts and possible requirements of such an event.

"For such an event to take place, there are licences that would need to be granted and a legal order that the council must provide. We're working with the organisers and Motorsport UK to work through this process.

"There will be a report presented to Cabinet in October detailing the considerations for councillors."
