Barnsley Bike Works, getting the community cycling this summer

This July and August, Barnsley Bike Works will be travelling the borough to get Barnsley ready to cycle into the summer.

Barnsley Bike Works will be offering free bike checks, advice on cycling, minor repairs, maintenance tips and information on other ways Barnsley Bike Works can get you cycling.

There is the opportunity to book onto our new, free adult cycle confidence sessions

These sessions are a great way to get back into cycling or become more confident on your bike.

The first session takes place on Tuesday 29 July at Penistone Showground.

Booking is required as there are limited places.

This year there will be three 'Summer Cycle Saturday' sessions, these will also feature a led ride, as well as some "fix it focus" sessions through the day too and the ever-popular free bike checks.

These will be on:

2 August at Locke Park
16 August at Dearne Valley Park
23  August at Penistone Showground.

All Saturday events will run from 11am to 3pm.

You can try out one of the Barnsley Bike Works E-Bike fleet and discover how an E-bike makes cycling easier.

If you want to try cycle to work or use cycling as your main transport, you can sign up to borrow one of the E-Bikes for a month, with all equipment provided.

Unused and old bikes can be brought to Bike Works sessions to be donated to our Barnsley Big Bike Recycle scheme. These bikes will be repaired and distributed back into our community.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “Our new Bike Works facility is all about making cycling accessible for everyone in our borough.

“I’m extremely pleased to see that we’re taking this one step further by offering local events and programmes for communities across our borough.

“Whether you’re riding for leisure, an experienced rider or just starting out, we want to help more people to lead healthier, happier and more physically active lives.”
