Barnsley Council awarded global Health and Safety Award 24 years running

We’re extremely proud to announce that we have once again been awarded a prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Order of Distinction Award for our health and safety performance.

This is the 24th year in a row that we have won the award at Gold Standard, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to health and safety excellence.

The esteemed RoSPA Health and Safety Awards programme now celebrates its 69th year as the UK’s largest and most impactful health and safety programme.

With almost 2,000 entries annually from over 50 countries, impacting over seven million employees, they offer a platform to spotlight continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work.

Councillor Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Core Services, said: “I’m delighted that we have been awarded the internationally recognised RoSPA award for our outstanding health and safety performance during 2024. I'm incredibly proud that we’ve won the award at Gold Standard now for 24 years running – that is a real commitment to excellence.

“I’d like to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our Health and Safety team for the fantastic work they do. Protecting our employees and keeping them safe is a key priority. This award recognises how embedded the wellbeing of our employees is within our council.

“It also showcases the efforts made across the organisation and our schools to implement good practice - keeping everyone healthy, safe and well.  A big well done and thank you to everyone involved in achieving these awards.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Growth Director, said: “Barnsley Council should be proud of the hard work and commitment to keeping people safe that has resulted in a RoSPA Award, which honours those organisations who have achieved the highest standards in health and safety in the workplace.

“RoSPA regards Barnsley Council as a strong example of the importance of making accident prevention central to any successful organisation, not just for the benefit of employees, customers and clients, but also society as a whole.”
