Barnsley Council relaunches WalkSafe app to boost public safety

Barnsley Council is proud to announce the relaunch of the WalkSafe app, a free personal safety tool available across Barnsley.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to making our borough safer for everyone.

The WalkSafe app offers a range of features designed to help residents and visitors feel secure when out and about. The app allows you to:

  • Plot a safer route home using real-time safety information.
  • Identify local venues with safety training accreditation, so you know where support is available.
  • Share your live location with trusted contacts, giving you peace of mind when walking alone.
  • Receive notifications when loved ones arrive home safely.

In addition, the app provides live locations of designated safety points and Barnsley town centre wardens or Night Angels, ensuring help is never far away.

Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “Barnsley Council is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Funding the WalkSafe app is a clear demonstration of that commitment. We encourage all residents to download the app and take advantage of its features. Together, we can make Barnsley a safer place for all.”
