Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live boosts community safety in Milton ward with new mobile CCTV

Residents in Milton ward will benefit from improved community safety as Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme supports the installation of two new mobile CCTV cameras in key locations across the area.

Using these mobile cameras, our Safer Communities Service and South Yorkshire Police are able to take a proactive approach to spotting issues and responding quickly.

Each location has been chosen for its strong visibility to ensure clear, useful footage.

The project has been delivered by our Safer Communities Service with support from the South Area Team and South Yorkshire Police. Together, they assessed each site to ensure the equipment would have the greatest impact for local residents.

Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said:
“Love Where You Live is all about giving our communities the tools and support they need to feel safe and confident.

“By introducing mobile CCTV cameras in Milton ward, we’re responding directly to what residents have told us.

“This flexible approach means we can quickly focus attention where it’s needed and continue working with our partners to create neighbourhoods where people feel proud and protected.”

The installation of the new CCTV cameras forms part of a wider borough-wide commitment to prevention and early intervention, bringing together teams and partners to respond to local priorities with an evidence-led approach.

Through Love Where You Live, Barnsley Council is bringing forward community enhancement projects in every Barnsley ward.

We’re investing £3.5 million in our communities, from environmental projects to grassroots initiatives shaped by residents themselves.

Everyone is encouraged to get involved. Whether it’s joining a local project, helping look after shared spaces, or sharing ideas on what would make the biggest difference in your neighbourhood, every action helps strengthen our communities.

Together, we’re creating places we’re proud to call home.
