Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live has helped strengthen safety measures in Rockingham ward
Two new mobile CCTV cameras have been installed in the Rockingham ward as part of Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme. They will support ongoing work to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.
The cameras are now in parts of the ward where higher levels of anti-social behaviour have been recorded. Each location has been chosen for its good visibility, helping the cameras capture clear footage when needed.
The project has been delivered by Barnsley Council’s Safer Communities Service, working closely with the Barnsley Council South Area Team and South Yorkshire Police. Each site has been assessed to make sure the right type of camera is in the right place and able to have the greatest impact.
Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “Through our Love Where You Live programme, we’ve been working with partners, including our Community Safety and South Area teams, to introduce measures that support safer neighbourhoods.
“Installing mobile CCTV cameras in the Rockingham ward is an important part of this work. It helps us and South Yorkshire Police respond to anti-social behaviour concerns in a targeted and adaptable way.
“By using evidence to guide where cameras are positioned, we’re strengthening our approach to creating safer, more welcoming communities.”
This installation is part of a wider preventative approach across the borough, bringing partners together to respond to residents’ concerns in a flexible and evidence-led way.
Through Love Where You Live, Barnsley Council is bringing forward community enhancement projects in every Barnsley ward. The programme is supporting a wide range of activities, from environmental improvements to community-led projects shaped around local priorities.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in Love Where You Live. Whether it’s taking part in a project, helping care for shared spaces, or sharing ideas about what could make a difference in your neighbourhood, every contribution helps strengthen our communities.
Together, we’re building communities we’re proud to call home.
