Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live helps brings community’s stories to life in new creative project

What’s your Worsbrough story?

That’s the question at the heart of Connected Worsbrough, a new creative project backed by Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live initiative.

The aim is to celebrate the people, places and stories that make Worsbrough special.

Using Love Where You Live funding, Worsbrough Ward Alliance have commissioned artist Patrick Murphy and poet Ian McMillan to lead the project, which is bringing together memories, voices and ideas from residents of all ages.

These will go into shaping a new public sculpture, a walking trail, a series of art plaques, and a website featuring an interactive digital map.

Through Love Where You Live, Barnsley Council is bringing forward community enhancement projects in every Barnsley ward in consultation with local councillors and residents.

Workshops have taken place in Worsbrough with local community groups, schools and volunteers to collect memories, drawings, stories and creative ideas.

If you weren’t able to attend a workshop, there’s still time to get involved by filling in the online consultation form.

Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, Cllr Wendy Cain, said: “This is a wonderful project to celebrate the rich past and present of Worsbrough through the memories, stories and experiences of its people.

“Love Where You Live is all about celebrating what makes our communities so special and I’m pleased so many people have taken the chance to be involved.

“I can’t wait to see the results of this community research. There’s still time to play your part, so if you have a story to share, fill in the online form and help shape this exciting project.”

Love Where You Live is all about trying something new, making a difference and getting involved in your community.

It’s about celebrating what’s great about where we live and building stronger, more connected communities.
