Barnsley Council's Love Where You Live programme funds new bench for Monk Bretton walkers
People taking a walk in Monk Bretton can rest their legs in comfort thanks to a new bench funded by Barnsley Council's Love Where You Live programme.
The seat near Nelson Avenue and Burton Bank Road was selected as a community enhancement project by Central ward councillors as part of the borough-wide investment in Barnsley communities.
This path is on a steep, uneven incline and is often used by older people. The residents who use this path asked for the bench, and we were happy to fund its installation.
It’s part of a package of community enhancement projects aimed at improving facilities and the street scene around Barnsley as part of Love Where You Live, Barnsley Council’s initiative to build pride in our neighbourhoods.
Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, Cllr Wendy Cain, said: “Love Where You Live is all about championing the people, places and projects that make us proud to call Barnsley our home.
“Projects being brought forward under Love Where You Live aim to make a positive difference in every ward.
“I’m pleased we were able to fund this new bench in Monk Bretton and hope people enjoy taking a rest on it and admiring the view.”
Love Where You Live is a £3.5 million investment in Barnsley’s communities. As well as special projects in every ward, we have allocated £2.1 million to fund improvements to our parks and green spaces and are carrying out clean-ups in 15 wards to tackle residents’ priorities like overgrown vegetation, excess waste and graffiti.
