Barnsley Libraries Celebrate Nature and Stories with the Summer Reading Challenge 2025
Barnsley Libraries, in partnership with The Reading Agency, is delighted to host the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, now underway and running until 13 September.
This year’s theme, Story Garden, invites children aged 0 to 11 to explore the wonders of nature and imagination through reading.
Featuring stunning illustrations by Dapo Adeola, the challenge encourages children to discover new books, earn rewards, and take part in nature-inspired events and activities across Barnsley.
The initiative is free to join and aims to keep children engaged with reading throughout the summer holidays.
Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: "The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to inspire a love of reading in our young people. Story Garden celebrates creativity, nature and learning, and we’re proud to support this initiative across our libraries in Barnsley."
Families can sign up at any Barnsley Library and begin their summer reading adventure. A full programme of events is available at: www.barnsley.gov.uk/libraryevents.
Join us this summer as we celebrate stories, nature, and creativity - growing imaginations one book at a time.
