Barnsley’s cycle and scooter RampUP summer programme is back

Our RampUP programme is returning this summer and will be travelling around the borough with an action-packed schedule of free and fun events for our children and young people.

The sessions have proven incredibly successful in previous years with more than 10,400 participants inspired to cycle or scoot across 311 events delivered in our schools and communities since the first sessions in 2023.

Delivered by our Sport and Physical Activity team, all sessions are free with bikes, scooters and helmets provided for all participants.

You can bring your own bikes and scooters too, and at selected sessions there will be the opportunity for your bike or scooter to receive a free maintenance and safety check carried out by qualified Barnsley Bike Works mechanics.

They can advise on maintenance tips and how to look after your bike. This service is available to everyone, so parents and carers are welcome to bring their bikes along to make sure their wheels keep rolling as we head into the spring.

RampUp begins on Wednesday 23 July at Silkstone Cricket Club in the morning and Mapplewell Park in the afternoon. View the RampUp full summer schedule to find a session near you.

Parents and carers will need to sign their children up for sessions, this can be done on the day, or follow the link to the online form to pre register. If you have done this before then just check into the registration desk at the session.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: "This summer, we have a busy schedule of events happening across our borough.

"Physical activity has many proven benefits for our physical and mental health, so it's important that our children and young people have the opportunity to access these experiences so they can move more, live well and feel better.

"The events offer an engaging, creative and informal way for people to get involved in cycling and scooting at an early age, combining both practical and educational elements to teach young people about active travel.

“We remain committed to enhancing the lives of our young people and investing in a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Barnsley.”
