Barnsley’s local elections results 2026 announced
The votes have been counted for Barnsley’s local elections, which took place on Thursday 7 May 2026.
The total eligible electorate in Barnsley was 188,414. In all, 70,182 people voted, including 23,376 postal votes, giving an overall turnout of 37.25% across the borough.
The political makeup of the council is now:
Reform UK - 42
Labour Party - 11
Liberal Democrats - 8
Independents - 2
Sarah Norman OBE, Chief Executive of Barnsley Council and Returning Officer for Barnsley, said: “Congratulations to everyone who has been elected. I’d like to thank residents for taking part in this year’s elections and making their vote count. I’d also like to thank all staff who worked at polling stations and at the count to deliver another successful election.
