Barnsley’s park upgrades through Love Where You Live making good progress
Work is well underway across all 21 wards in Barnsley to deliver improvements to our parks through Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme.
This widespread package of works is helping to create cleaner, greener and more welcoming outdoor spaces for our communities. There’re over 40 projects delivered already and more to come.
Parks upgrades carried out so far include new play equipment, resurfaced footpaths, refreshed signage, enhanced planting, and renewed facilities such as benches and bins.
These changes have been shaped by surveys carried out by our Parks team, who have identified priority areas and worked closely with local members to develop plans for each ward.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “Our parks are the beating heart of our communities.
“I’m incredibly proud to see millions being invested, dozens of projects already delivered, and so many more on the way.
“From new play spaces to the small touches that make a big difference, we’re working with residents to create beautiful parks that will bring people together for generations to come.”
By upgrading parks facilities and encouraging more people to visit, enjoy and volunteer in our parks, this programme aims to strengthen local pride and help reduce anti-social behaviour.
Alongside this work, the Love Where You Live programme is bringing forward community enhancement projects in every Barnsley ward.
The improvements taking place in our parks build on this investment by helping to rejuvenate shared spaces, inspire community action and strengthen the council’s Sustainable Barnsley and Healthy Barnsley ambitions.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in Love Where You Live. Whether by joining a local project, helping to look after shared spaces or putting forward new ideas, every contribution helps strengthen Barnsley’s communities.
Together, we are working with local people to create places we are proud to call home.
