Barnsley unveils an action packed 2026 events programme
Barnsley is gearing up for a blockbuster year of events in 2026, with a packed programme that offers something for everyone.
From mouth‑watering international markets and spectacular summer weekends to races and dazzling winter lights, residents and visitors can look forward to memorable moments throughout the calendar.
The year begins with the return of the fantastic Barnsley Book Festival, running from Saturday 14 February to Saturday 7 March. Now gearing up for its third year, the festival promises a three-week-long celebration of reading, creativity, and storytelling for the whole community.
Then, the popular International Market returns to The Glass Works Square from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 April and again from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September. Visitors can soak up the atmosphere, sample flavours from around the world, and browse a treasure trove of artisan produce and unique gifts.
Spring then blossoms into creativity at the Barnsley Garden Party on Saturday 23 May, transforming the town centre with music, dance, circus acts and outdoor arts for all ages.
June brings two much‑loved fixtures. Armed Forces Day on Saturday 20 June offers a heartfelt salute to service personnel, veterans and their families, filling the town with pride, remembrance and community spirit. Just a week later, the streets roar back to life for the Barnsley 10k on Sunday 28 June, a standout road race that draws runners and supporters from across the region for a high‑energy day in the heart of the borough.
Summer hits its stride with Barnsley’s Big Weekend on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, two fun‑packed days where the town centre is bursting with live entertainment and family activities, including the return of the Brassed On Music Festival.
Retail stars then take centre stage at the NMTF Young Traders Market Regional Final on Saturday 1 August, showcasing the enterprise and creativity of the next generation of independent traders.
As nights draw in, Barnsley shines brighter than ever with Barnsley Bright Nights on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 November. Expect illuminating artworks, pop‑up performances and a festive atmosphere that lights up streets and smiles alike.
