Discover the world of printmaking at Cooper Gallery’s latest exhibition
Get ready to discover fascinating artworks this spring at the Cooper Gallery with the new exhibition, Studio Prints: Creative Collaboration. The exhibition runs from Saturday 25 April to Saturday 31 October 2026.
We invite everyone, whether you have an interest in printmaking or are someone who enjoys cultural experiences, to explore a glimpse into the artistry and skill behind printmaking, with this exhibition showcasing the many processes that shape a final print.
This special exhibition, gifted to the Cooper Gallery through Arts Council England’s Cultural Gifts Scheme, features artistic prints from Dorothea Wight and Marc Balakjian. They were the printers behind Studio Prints, one of London’s most influential printing studios. Renowned artists such as Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach and Celia Paul all spent time in their creative workshop, and their work is included in this exciting new exhibition.
The Cooper Gallery is only one of a select few in the country that have been lucky enough to be gifted these prints and we’re so proud to showcase these amazing artworks.
Visitors to this free exhibition will have the opportunity to explore plates, drawings, trial proofs and multiple versions of the same design, and reveal the processes that shape a final print. A selection of over 30 prints will be on display.
Matt O’Neill, Executive Director of Growth and Sustainability, said: “The new Studio Prints exhibition at the Cooper Gallery is a wonderful opportunity for everyone, regardless of their experiences, to enjoy a fascinating insight into the process of printmaking. With well-known artists such as Freud and Auerbach featuring, this is yet another example of the thriving cultural offer from Barnsley Museums.”
