Give it some welly for Febru-welly 2026

Febru-welly is returning for 2026, encouraging families across the borough to pull on their boots, embrace the great outdoors, and stay active throughout the month, whatever the weather brings.

After taking a break in 2025, the much‑loved campaign returns this February. Throughout the month, we will be shining a spotlight on activities happening across Barnsley with the help of our fantastic local partners. From community walks to outdoor adventures, there will be plenty of chances for you to get moving, try something new, and enjoy the fresh air.

The best thing about Febru-welly is that everyone can take part. Whether it is a gentle stroll, a ramble through your local park, or splashing through puddles on the school run, every active minute counts.

We would love to hear from you and see your snaps as you are out and about. We are running a competition with prizes for the best entries into our four categories: biggest splash, muddiest dog, muddiest wellies and best Barnsley backdrop. Make sure to use the hashtag #BarnsleySplash with your picture on Facebook or email them to sport&activerecreation@barnsley.gov.uk to enter. For more information on the competition, visit the Febru-welly webpage.

Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:

"We’re delighted to bring Febru-welly back for 2026. Since launching in 2021, the campaign has become a firm favourite in our Sport and Physical Activity offer, giving families the chance to get active together, especially over half-term.

"Whatever the weather, staying active is fantastic for both our physical and mental wellbeing. Barnsley has so many brilliant places to explore, from our beautiful parks and green spaces to the Trans Pennine Trail. There really is something for everyone, so grab your boots, get outdoors, and give it some welly!"
