Great British Spring Clean 2026 sees volunteers collect over 550 bags of litter across Barnsley
The Great British Spring Clean has taken place across Barnsley once again, with volunteers, council teams and residents working together to improve local neighbourhoods.
Litter picking events were held in areas including Thurnscoe, Goldthorpe, Wombwell, Elsecar, Dodworth and Kingstone, along with other parts of the borough, between 13 March and 29 March.
During the campaign, 559 bags of litter were collected, equating to just over 1.677 tonnes of waste removed from parks, green spaces and streets.
The Great British Spring Clean is a national initiative led by Keep Britain Tidy, encouraging people to take simple, practical action to help care for their local environment.
Matt O’Neill, Executive Director for Growth and Sustainability, said:
“The Great British Spring Clean continues to show how much people care about their local area. It’s positive to see residents, volunteers and local teams coming together to make a visible difference in neighbourhoods across Barnsley.“Everyone who took part helped to improve shared spaces for the benefit of the whole community, and that collective effort really matters.”
