Interim Fleet Replacement discussed at Cabinet

Next week, Cabinet members will discuss the Interim Fleet Replacement Programme. Members will be asked to approve the procurement of 28 replacement vehicles.

The Council’s fleet currently comprises of over 440 assets. Many of these are used to deliver essential services such as waste collection, highway maintenance and Neighbourhood’ tasks.

With 126 vehicle leases due to expire in the 2025 to 26 financial year, Cabinet will be asked to approve the procurement of 28 essential replacement vehicles to maintain service continuity.

A full revised Fleet Strategy will be presented to Cabinet later in 2025, setting out a long-term vision for sustainable and cost-effective fleet management.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways said: “Without good fleet, we can’t deliver high-quality, safe, and sustainable services.

“This interim replacement programme ensures we can continue to meet our statutory duties and meet the needs of residents while we finalise a long-term strategy that supports our sustainability goals.”
