Investing in Keresforth Hill and Hall Road

As part of our Accelerated Highways Capital programme, we’re continuing to improve and invest in our roads to make sure they’re in the best condition they can be ahead of the winter months.

Highways resurfacing works will be taking place on Keresforth Hill and Hall Road from Sunday 20 August 2023, for approximately 4 weeks. This work will include removing the existing carriageway surface, laying new tarmac and new road markings.

To minimise disruption, the work will take place during the night between 7pm to 5am, under temporary road closures and signed diversions. The project will be carried out in five phases, with the initial focus on Keresforth Hall Road.

We acknowledge that access to Bainton Drive, Raley Street, and Keresforth Hill Road cul-de-sac may be limited while resurfacing work is taking place. These restrictions will only be in place for the necessary periods, and access from these streets will be facilitated by on-site traffic management operatives.

These resurfacing schemes form part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the local road infrastructure. By investing in these projects, we aim to enhance safety and comfort for all road users, particularly during the challenging winter months. We appreciate the support and understanding of the community during this period of improved infrastructure development and encourage everyone to plan their journeys accordingly to minimise any inconvenience.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways said: “As part of the accelerated Highways Capital Programme, we’ve committed to investing £20m to improve Barnsley’s roads and transport infrastructure.

“I’m pleased to see the great progress that has been made already across the borough to make sure our roads are in the best possible condition they can be ahead of the winter months.

“The upcoming road closures around Keresforth Hill and Hall Road will only be in place for the necessary periods, to allow our Highways Team to complete their works.

“I’d like to extend my gratitude to all residents, businesses, and road users impacted by our recent schemes for their patience and cooperation.”
