Join us at our free celebration event to mark one year of Barnsley’s Great Childhoods Ambition
Families and young people across Barnsley are invited to join a free celebration event on Saturday 28 March in the Glass Works Square, marking one year of Barnsley’s Great Childhoods Ambition.
The Celebration of the Great Childhoods Ambition event will bring together local organisations, community groups and partners for a free fun‑filled day of activities, performances and hands‑on experiences designed for children and young people of all ages.
From crafts and sports to digital adventures and live entertainment, the celebration will shine a light on the huge range of opportunities available to young people across our borough and the progress we’ve made over the past year to support them to explore, dream, grow and connect.
Launched in 2025, the Great Childhoods Ambition is our commitment to helping Barnsley’s children and young people thrive. Working alongside fantastic organisations and partners, we’re focused on making sure every child feels they belong and have the chance to build an amazing future.
There’s so much taking place as part of the celebration event, with stalls and activities delivered by partners involved in the Great Childhoods Ambition. Come along and join in with over 25 free stalls and activities, including:
- Creative workshops and art drop-in sessions, where you can make Easter‑themed crafts or design and print your own t‑shirt or tote bag
- Digital and experimental fun, including a mega gaming marquee, science experiments and drop‑in coding sessions
- Sports and physical activities, with football skills and penalty shootouts led by Barnsley FC, plus soft archery, athletics tasters and more
- Carnival‑style games and circus skills with prizes to be won throughout the day
- Live performances from local groups and talented young performers
Alongside the fun activities, families will also be able to access information and advice from support services and community organisations working across Barnsley.
Cllr Ashley Peace, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said: “This celebration event is all about recognising the incredible work happening in our borough as part of our Great Childhoods Ambition. Over the past year we’ve come together with some fantastic organisations, groups and partners to strengthen opportunities for our young people and support them to have a great childhood.
“I’m really proud of what’s been achieved so far and excited to invite families to join us in celebrating. It’s going to be a fantastic day for everyone.”
The event, stalls and activities are free to attend, with activities taking place in Glass Works Square and the Library @ The Lightbox.
