Join us for Christmas carols at the Mayor’s Civic Carol Service

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr David Leech, is delighted to invite you and your family to join him and the mayoress, at Barnsley’s annual Civic Carol service on Thursday 18 December at St Mary's Parish Church, Church Street, Barnsley.

The traditional service will start at 4pm, but we kindly ask that you arrive by 3.45pm to make sure everyone is seated and settled before the civic party arrive. The carol service will be led by Reverend Phillip Maries, Rector of the Central Barnsley Benefice, along with the Mayor’s Chaplain, Fr Peter Needham.

Barnsley’s Civic Carol Service is a long-standing tradition and provides a wonderful opportunity for families to take a break from Christmas shopping and preparations and come together for an afternoon of traditional carols and hymns. During the service, you will also be treated to hymns performed by the fabulous Barnsley Singers Choir and wonderful Barnsley Metropolitan Band.

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Leech, said: “I am honoured to be the Mayor of Barnsley and to have the opportunity to lead the civic party at Barnsley’s traditional carol service means so much to me and the mayoress.

“The Civic Carol Service is such a long-standing tradition here in Barnsley and signifies the start of Christmas celebrations for many. It’s the perfect way to bring together friends and families and really get into the Christmas spirit. It’s such a busy time of year, so it’s important we all take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

“Everyone is welcome to join us for this joyous occasion, and we hope to see the church full of families. On behalf of the mayoress and I, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very healthy, Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

The service is open to one and all - so please spread the word amongst family and friends. For more information, call the Mayor's Office on 01226 773804.
