Join us in commemorating Remembrance Sunday
We will be holding our annual Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday 9 November 2025, starting at 11am at the Town Hall war memorial.
This important event provides an opportunity to come together, reflect, and honour those who have lost their lives in conflict, and to show support for our armed forces, veterans, and their families.
The service will include the opportunity to lay a wreath, and will be followed by a parade.
If you would like to lay a wreath during the service, we ask that you please register with the Mayor’s Office in advance, no later than Wednesday 5 November. You can do so by emailing mayorsoffice@barnsley.gov.uk, calling 01226 773804, or by visiting the Town Hall reception and completing a registration form. Registering means we can better coordinate the event, but for anyone not registered there will be opportunity to lay wreaths at the end of the service.
Information about road closures is available on our armed forces webpage.
Cllr David James Leech, Mayor of Barnsley, said: “Remembrance Sunday is a deeply significant occasion, giving us time to come together as a community and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. The service on Sunday 9 November is open to all, and we invite you to join us as we pay our respects and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served.”
A short Armistice Day service will also be held at the war memorial on Tuesday 11 November 2025 at 11am. The event will begin with a one-minute silence, followed by a short service and wreath laying. You can find out more about upcoming armed forces events at barnsley.gov.uk/ArmedForces.
