Love Where You Live brings big improvements to parks across North East of Barnsley

Enhancements have been delivered at parks and play areas across the North East area of Barnsley through Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme, helping to keep local green spaces welcoming places for families, children and the wider community.

The work forms part of the council’s £2.1 million investment to improve parks across all 21 Barnsley wards.

Shaped by local priorities, upgrades at many wellused parks and play areas have included safer surfacing, refurbished equipment, repainting, new seating, better paths and improved access.

These works sit alongside a wider programme of community enhancement projects being delivered in every ward across Barnsley.

In Monk Bretton, refurbishments have been completed at Monk Bretton play area off Silverdale Drive, where play equipment has been repainted, surfacing refreshed and upgrades delivered alongside multiuse gaming area enhancements.

At Monk Bretton Park, access improvements have been completed, with updates to the play area and bins, as well as works to replace the jetty and improve the surrounding path.

Our Parks Team have also overseen work at Shafton Recreation Ground, with new safer surfacing installed beneath key play equipment and swings.

At Brierley, refurbishment works have been completed alongside repainting and the installation of a new zipwire, updating the play area for local children and young people.

In Cudworth, upgrades have been completed at Cudworth Park, including repairs and refreshed safer surfacing, alongside works at Royston Road Play Area to help maintain the space for everyday play and use.

At Royston Park, a range of enhancements has also been completed, including play area refurbishment works and repairs within the wider park.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:

“Through Love Where You Live, we’ve continued to invest in the parks and green spaces people use every day.

“These practical upgrades help keep play areas and parks in good condition, supporting spaces where families and communities can spend time together.”

Alongside park enhancements, the Love Where You Live programme has delivered repaired noticeboards, planting and refreshed multiuse games areas, supporting safer and more accessible community spaces across the north of Barnsley.

Together, this investment reflects our ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, wellconnected neighbourhoods across the borough.

Further works are planned at a number of sites, including Plumpton Park, Burton Grange, Darfield Road play area and additional works at Royston Park, as the Love Where You Live programme continues to roll out.
