Love Where You Live continues park investment across south of Barnsley
Parks and play areas across Darfield, Hoyland Milton, Rockingham and Wombwell wards have benefitted from a programme of work delivered through Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme.
This activity forms part of the council’s £2.1 million boroughwide programme to improve parks and green spaces in all 21 wards, helping to care for places that families, children and communities use throughout the year.
In Darfield, work has been completed at Bly Road Play Area, where refreshed play equipment and additional seating have helped improve the space for everyday family use.
Across the Rockingham ward, work has taken place at Tinker Lane play area, focusing on practical updates to support the condition and usability of this local space.
Nearby in the Hoyland Milton ward, Elsecar Park has also benefited from works designed to support a more welcoming park environment, including improvements to both play facilities and the wider setting.
Further work is underway at Wombwell Park, where activity has started and will continue as part of the Love Where You Live programme.
Planned changes include the installation of a new zipwire near the park’s multi-use games area, alongside wider works to help improve how the park is used and enjoyed. These works will be delivered as the programme continues to roll out across the south of the borough.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:
“Our parks are places people return to time and again, whether that’s to play, to walk, or simply to spend time outdoors close to home.
“Through Love Where You Live, we’re taking a steady, thoughtful approach, looking at each area in turn and making sure the right work is happening in the right places.
“By continuing this programme across Darfield, Hoyland Milton, Rockingham and Wombwell, we’re looking after spaces that matter to local communities now, while also planning ahead for the future.”
Alongside parks work, Love Where You Live is supporting community enhancement projects in every ward across Barnsley, encouraging local pride and involvement in shared spaces.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in Love Where You Live, whether by volunteering, joining a local project or helping to care for neighbourhood spaces.
