Love Where You Live funding adds finishing touch to community centre's kitchen upgrade
Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme has funded modern flooring to apply the finishing touch to a community centre’s new kitchen.
Houghton Road Community Centre in Thurnscoe is a popular hub for the community and has been made more welcoming and fitter for the future with the new cooking facilities.
The kitchen was co-funded by the Dearne North Ward Alliance and the community centre and through Love Where You Live.
Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live has now covered the cost of new flooring to complete the project.
We’re supporting community enhancement projects in every Barnsley ward in consultation with local councillors and residents as part of our borough-wide investment in our communities through Love Where You Live.
Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “This new kitchen at Houghton Road Community Centre is creating a safe, hygienic, and visually appealing environment for centre users.
“We were happy to fund the new flooring through Love Where You Live to complement the upgraded space, completing the refurbishment and maximising the value of the investment in this thriving community venue.
“Love Where You live is all about celebrating the people, places and projects that make us proud of Barnsley, while creating welcoming spaces where we can all come together.
“I hope everyone will enjoy making the most of these modern, high-quality facilities and thank everyone who has helped make this project happen.”
Barnsley Council’s Dearne Area Team has worked with Dearne North councillors to identify community projects to be supported by Love Where You Live funding.
St Helen’s Church in Thurnscoe and its church hall, which hosted a range of activities, have both benefited from roofing works to help them continue to serve their community.
Love Where You Live community enhancement projects are part of a £3.5 million investment by Barnsley Council in our neighbourhoods.
Our dedicated Housing and Environmental Neighbourhood Task Force is making a big difference with clean-ups across the borough, we’re investing £2.1 million in our parks and green spaces and our Unity and Inclusion Grants are funding events and activities bringing people together.
We’re inviting everyone to get involved and help make a difference, whether it’s by joining a community clean-up, volunteering your time, attending local events and activity sessions, or simply trying something new, every action counts.
