Love Where You Live – Get involved, try something new, and make a difference
From next Monday 2 June, we’re putting community pride front and centre as we begin Love Where You Live – part of our £3.5 million investment into our local areas and a celebration of the real heart of our borough: its people.
Love Where You Live is more than just an initiative – it’s a community movement. It’s all of us working together, listening to each other, and making a real difference. It’s about creating a Barnsley that’s vibrant, welcoming, and full of opportunity – a Barnsley that we’re proud to call home.
To mark the relaunch, Monday 2 to Sunday 8 June is Love Where You Live week – a celebration of community spirit and a chance for everyone to get involved and find something new in their local area.
Across one week, there are endless ways to Love Where You Live. Find a new group, meet new faces, volunteer, or try something new.
Love Where You Live Week is just the beginning - there are so many events and activities taking place across our borough year-round, whether you're already a familiar face in your community or you're looking to get stuck in for the first time.
Want to try your hand at tai chi or walking football? Interested in coming along to a knit and natter session, poetry group, or a community clean-up? Whatever your thing is - or even if you're not quite sure yet - there's always something happening near you. It's all about joining in, having a go, and feeling part of a community you can call home.

Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “Love Where You Live isn’t just about investing in local spaces – it’s about investing in people, pride, and the places and communities we call home. It’s a celebration of everything that makes Barnsley’s communities strong – the volunteers, the local groups, the neighbours who look out for one another, the fantastic people who make up our borough.
“We’re proud to support the things that bring communities together, and I encourage everyone to get involved in Love Where You Live week, try something new, and be a part of what’s happening on your doorstep.”
