Love Where You Live helps care for parks across the Dearne
Parks and green spaces across the Dearne have new been updated thanks to works delivered through Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme.
It’s forms part of the council’s £2.1 million borough-wide investment to improve parks and play areas in all 21 wards, helping to create cleaner, safer and more welcoming spaces for families, children and local communities.
In the Dearne North ward, improvements have been carried out at Derry Grove Play Area in Thurnscoe, where refreshed play equipment and new safety surfacing have been installed to support everyday play.
Across the Dearne South ward, works have taken place at Brick Yard Ponds in Bolton upon Dearne, where improved paths have made the site easier to access for walkers and visitors. Hawthorne Drive play area has benefitted from a fresh makeover too.
Investment has also supported improvements at Mansion Fields on Wath Road, helping to enhance this well-used green space for the local community.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:
“Our local parks play an important role in everyday life, from places children can play, to green spaces people use to walk, exercise or spend time outdoors.
“Through Love Where You Live, we’re making practical improvements that support how these spaces are used day-to-day, while continuing to invest in parks across Dearne North and Dearne South as the programme progresses.
“By listening to local priorities and focusing on visible, meaningful changes, we’re helping to look after these spaces for the people who use them most.”
Further improvements are also planned at George Street Play Area in Goldthorpe during April, with additional work due to be delivered as the Love Where You Live programme continues to roll out across Dearne North and Dearne South.
These upcoming projects will build on the investment already made, helping to ensure local parks continue to meet the needs of their communities.
The works delivered so far were shaped by local priorities, with our Parks and Green Spaces team working closely with ward members to identify where investment would have the greatest impact.
Alongside these parks improvements, the Love Where You Live programme is delivering community enhancement projects in every ward across Barnsley, supporting local pride and encouraging residents to play an active role in caring for shared spaces.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in Love Where You Live, whether by volunteering, joining a local project or helping to look after neighbourhood spaces.
