Mayor thanks local business for outstanding support to charities
Councillor David Leech, Mayor of Barnsley has thanked WPS (part of the Wates group) and the Wates Family Enterprise Trust for their generous support to this year’s mayoral charities.
A charity golf day held on 12 September raised £7,640.78. The Wates Family Enterprise Trust then matched the amount, bringing the total to £15,281.56. The money has been split equally between Help4Homeless Veterans and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) Barnsley. The Wates Family Enterprise Trust is an independent charity set up by the Wates family, the owners of the Wates Group.
Councillor Leech said: “I’d like to give a big thank you to everyone at WPS and the Wates Family Enterprise Trust for your amazing support. Your generosity will help these charities continue their vital work in our community. This is a fantastic example of community spirit in action.”
Help4Homeless Veterans helps former servicemen and women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. They offer practical support, advice, and help to find safe accommodation.
SoBS Barnsley is a local peer-to-peer support group that provides compassionate, confidential help to people who have lost someone to suicide, giving them a safe space to talk and be heard.
Representatives from WPS joined the Mayor and the charities at Barnsley Town Hall for a thank you event to mark the success of the fundraising.
This donation forms part of a wider fundraising campaign during the Mayor’s year in office, which has seen residents, businesses, and partners come together to support local causes.
