More money in pensioners' pockets, as Barnsley Council guarantees winter fuel payments

Barnsley Council will make sure that Barnsley pensioners receive a winter fuel payment this winter.

The government is set to announce a revision to the winter fuel allowance, but our support means that people who need it won’t miss out, and we’ll provide them with help towards their heating bills.

If you qualify for the government’s winter fuel payment, the payment will be sent directly to you. If you don’t qualify for the Government’s scheme, Barnsley Council will provide a £200 winter fuel payment to any pensioner who has an annual household income of less than £30,000 per year, and we won’t exclude you just because you have savings.

Cllr Sir Steve Houghton CBE, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “Our pensioners shouldn’t have to think about whether or not they can afford to heat their homes this winter. This is why Barnsley Council is committed to giving pensioners more money in their pockets by guaranteeing a winter fuel payment of £200 if they’re not eligible for the Government scheme.”

We’ll publish more information on how to apply in the coming weeks.
