New pharmacy and clinic opens in Barnsley’s The Glass Works

Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic, an independent NHS Community Pharmacy and Private Clinic, has opened in Barnsley’s The Glass Works.

The popular local business, offering a range of pharmacy services, health advice and private clinic services, has moved from its previous premises on Racecommon Road to a modern 684 sq ft unit in the heart of the town centre.

Now open opposite the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), next to Made and Found Yorkshire and close to the popular Barnsley Markets, Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic aims to extend the town centre’s growing healthcare offering in line with Barnsley Council’s Health on the High Street initiative.

The CDC, which has now been open for nearly four years has been instrumental in reducing waiting times, increasing attendance rates for appointments and improving patient satisfaction, welcoming more than 220,000 appointments to date for services like blood tests, ultrasounds and X-rays.

Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic will follow in its footsteps providing pharmacy prescription services to patient doorsteps, through local free delivery, along with private services via clinics for travel, weight loss, B12 injections and microsuction ear wax removal.

Open six days a week, Monday to Saturday, the Pharmacy and Clinic will provide residents of Barnsley, and further afield, access to professional, stress-free healthcare via its no hassle, no waiting approach.

Adil Mahmood, Superintendent Pharmacist at Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic, said: “We’re excited to be in our new premises at The Glass Works. We are committed to providing the very best healthcare and advice to patients and customers from the convenience of the high street, as well as at home or in the workplace, offering the most accurate service in-person, at the click of a button, or via a phone call.

“Solidifying our reach in Barnsley town centre, in an accessible location, we aim to future-proof our practice to enable us to keep delivering an outstanding service to the residents of Barnsley.”

Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council, said: “We’re excited to welcome another new tenant to The Glass Works with Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic offering an important service for residents and visitors in Barnsley.

“By bringing greater healthcare amenities to the high street, we are ensuring services are as convenient as possible for patients and customers while we also successfully drive down waiting times in other areas.

“This mixed-use approach to modern town centres is increasing footfall at The Glass Works and we continue to encourage new retailers to open and more businesses to start up here while progressing our Health on the High Street Initiative.”

Practices like Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic and the CDC form part of Phase One of the Council’s Health on the High Street project. Phase two will span a trailblazing and collaborative health and wellbeing hub in the Alhambra, with the aim to reduce pressure on existing healthcare facilities, improve access and quality of care, and attract even more visitors to Barnsley town centre, boosting the local economy.

By attracting an additional 150,000 footfall per annum, the hub is expected to generate at least £1.5 million in additional visitor spend, supporting the town centre’s national and independent businesses.

Barnsley Pharmacy and Clinic is a dedicated national distance selling pharmacy. It is operated by UK fully qualified Pharmacists who are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GphC). Learn more here: https://barnsleychemist.co.uk/home
