Operation Duxford delivers strong results in Barnsley
Barnsley Council has worked alongside South Yorkshire Police, Berneslai Homes and local partners as part of Operation Duxford, a coordinated day of action focused on keeping communities safe and responding to issues raised by residents.
Operation Duxford is a partnership initiative that brings together multiple agencies to provide a strong, visible presence in communities. Activity is shaped by intelligence and feedback from residents, helping partners focus resources where they are most needed.
Council teams were active across the borough, supporting enforcement activity, carrying out safeguarding checks, progressing housing and tenancy action, and working directly with partners to address anti social behaviour and neighbourhood concerns.
The operation brought together services including community safety, housing, environmental enforcement, trading standards and neighbourhood teams, working together to tackle crime, support vulnerable people and improve quality of life for residents.
Activity during the operation included:
- Arrests and enforcement action targeting criminal activity.
- Seizure of drugs, cash, vehicles and other items linked to criminal behaviour.
- Safeguarding and welfare visits, with council teams working alongside police to support vulnerable residents and address concerns such as exploitation and unsafe living conditions.
- Housing and tenancy checks, with follow up action identified for council services.
- Community engagement, including reassurance patrols and conversations with residents about local concerns.
Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said
"Keeping our communities safe is a top priority, and Operation Duxford shows the impact we can have when partners work together. This activity is shaped by what residents tell us matters most, and it sends a clear message that we will continue to take action against those who cause harm in our neighbourhoods."
Barnsley Council and partners will continue to work together following Operation Duxford, building on the outcomes of the day and maintaining support for communities across the borough.
