Our latest performance report celebrates a boost in local jobs

Last quarter, we celebrated the number of private sector jobs created following support from our award-winning Enterprising Barnsley service. In quarter one, we achieved 44% of our annual target for private sector jobs creation in that period alone.

In quarter two, we’re celebrating our progress towards Growing Barnsley, through an additional boost of over 300 new jobs. These have been created across a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, digital and technology, logistics, and construction.

This is just one of the fantastic achievements highlighted in our latest performance report, which sets out our progress between July and September. There are more highlights linked to our Barnsley 2030 themes in the report, these include:

Healthy Barnsley:

  • 1,095 people have attended blood pressure checks through our How's Thi Ticker programme. 35% of people who were checked had high blood pressure and were helped to access the right support. Our team and partners delivered 256 full workplace health checks that looked at blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol, while providing general health and lifestyle advice.

Learning Barnsley

  • The number of suspensions in all schools has fallen. Our services are working in partnership with schools, academies and parents to ensure that every Barnsley child and young person can get the most out of their education.

Sustainable Barnsley

  • In quarter two, there have been over 788,000 visits to our museums. It has been excellent to see so many people enjoying our heritage sites, parks and green spaces, as well as the family-friendly activities we hosted during the school holidays.

Councillor Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Core Services, said: “To make Barnsley the place of possibilities it’s vital that people can benefit from good jobs, better health and a great education. We also want people to be able to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of our borough and connect with their communities. This performance report demonstrates successes that make that possible. I’m proud of our Economic Development team, whose dedicated support to local businesses has been instrumental in creating jobs and driving economic growth. Their recent recognition as Team of the Year at the Institute of Economic Development is a testament to their impact. I feel incredibly proud of our communities, partners and ambitious teams for delivering these successful outcomes.

Our latest performance report will be discussed at Cabinet on Wednesday 10 December. You can find more information about the report in the Cabinet papers. Learn more about our progress to achieve our ambitions for the borough and areas for improvement on the Barnsley Council website
