Our Unity and Inclusion Grants are bringing Barnsley’s communities together
Barnsley Council is helping to build stronger, more connected communities through the Unity and Inclusion Grants scheme.
As part of the Love Where You Live programme, community groups can access up to £5,000 or £10,000 across two years - to fund projects that enhance unity, inclusion and community cohesion across the borough.
The aim is to break down barriers, improve access and opportunities, and foster a stronger sense of belonging, by engaging diverse groups.
Cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, Cllr Wendy Cain, said: “The Unity and Inclusion Grants are being funded through the Love Where You Live programme, which is already doing some amazing work.
“These grants have already funded some great projects working to break down barriers in communities, bring people together to share food, music, dance, and other celebratory things.
“We would love people to bid for this funding so we can get it out into local communities to strengthen the connections which give us all a sense of belonging and community pride.”
Unity and Inclusion Grants have so far funded Italian and Caribbean-themed events and a curry night at Elsecar Cricket Club, bringing people from different backgrounds together to celebrate what's special about their diverse cultures.
We’re also funding inclusive kickboxing sessions run by Retro Fitness in Thurnscoe for people of all ages to get active and have fun.
These sessions aren’t just about fitness—they’re about bringing people together, reducing isolation, boosting mental health and building confidence.
There are many more projects to come, too.
