Reablement service rated 'good' in recent CQC inspection

Earlier today (Wednesday 17 September), Cabinet discussed the positive feedback our reablement service received during their recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, where they were rated as ‘good’.

Welcoming inspectors back in May, the service achieved a score of 75% across all the key assessment criteria, being rated ‘good’ in all categories:

  • Safe, meaning the people we support are safe and protected from avoidable harm.

  • Effective, meaning people’s outcomes are consistently good, something which was confirmed by feedback from those accessing the service.

  • Caring, meaning people are supported and treated with dignity and respect, with the team involving them as partners in their care.

  • Responsive, meaning people’s needs are met through good organisation and delivery.

  • Well-led, meaning the culture created by leaders and running through the service promotes high-quality, person-centred care.

Created in 2020, our reablement service supports people to start living independently again after they’ve been in hospital or had a period of illness. This short-term support focuses on how we can help people regain living skills and feel more confident living at home.

This result marks a significant milestone for the team, as it was the first CQC inspection the service has welcomed, laying strong foundations to continue strengthening our support.

Despite only receiving 48 hours’ notice ahead of the inspection, the team showed their commitment and resilience in ensuring minimal disruption to the people we support.

The service received overwhelmingly positive feedback from inspectors, who recognised:

  • Our strong, effective leadership.

  • Our safe, responsive practices.

  • How the team consistently delivers high-quality support.

  • The service’s proactive approach to overcoming challenges.

Their inspection report also highlights positive comments from the people we support and their loved ones, including how caring our teams are and how our support made them feel safe.

Hearing from the people we support highlights the impact our person-centred care and support is having in our communities, helping more people to live well and thrive.

Councillor Jo Newing, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We’re committed to making sure our residents get the right support to live happy, healthy, fulfilling lives. We’re really proud of our reablement service, which is helping us place early help at the heart of Adult Social Care, and this inspection result is a testament to the team’s dedication to improving people’s health and wellbeing.

“As part of the inspection, it was great to hear such positive feedback from the people we support, their loved ones and our partners. Every day, our team works tirelessly to help more people get back on their feet and live well, so it’s great to see their work recognised.

“This rating provides strong assurances to our communities and stakeholders, and we will use it as an inspiration to continue building on the high standards we’ve set for this type of care.”
