Rising entrepreneurs shine at this year’s Barnsley Christmas Market

Market Place, operators of the Barnsley Christmas Market, are proud to champion the next generation of market talent through a new initiative in partnership with the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF). The award-winning operators have donated a chalet to the NMTF’s regional young traders, providing a valuable platform for emerging entrepreneurs to showcase their skills and products to thousands of visitors.

The Young Traders Chalet is being shared by five outstanding local entrepreneurs, aged between 16 and 30, each showcasing their creativity, passion, and ideas. Visitors can discover JHL Print, specialising in custom pet portraits and prints; Barnsley Outdoor Sweet Stall, offering a delightful selection of confectionery; Chilli Charva, known for handmade and natural spicy sauces; Wilou Designs, featuring handcrafted jewellery; and Candlelight Creations UK, offering hand-poured wax melts. Collectively, these traders embody the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of young talent across the region.

Andy Pidgen, Operations Director at Market Place, said: “We are passionate about supporting young local talent and are delighted to partner with the NMTF to provide this opportunity. Markets have always been a place where entrepreneurs can grow, and it is inspiring to see the creativity and drive of these young traders.”

Joe Harrison, CEO of the NMTF, added: “This initiative is a fantastic example of how collaboration can create real opportunities for young traders. By working with Market Place, we are able to give these entrepreneurs a platform to develop their businesses, engage with customers, and gain valuable experience. It is vital that we continue to nurture young talent to ensure the future of markets across the UK.”

The Barnsley Christmas Market continues to be a highlight of the festive season, bringing together the best of international flavours, local creativity, and family fun in the heart of The Glass Works Square. With its enchanting atmosphere and diverse offerings, it is the perfect destination to shop, eat, drink, and celebrate the season.

Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Young Traders chalet to this year’s Christmas Market at The Glass Works Square. Markets have been an integral part of our town’s history for over 775 years, and Barnsley Market remains at the very heart of our town centre.

We recognise the importance of safeguarding markets for the future and are proud to support initiatives that champion traders and entrepreneurs. The Young Traders chalet is a fantastic addition, and we look forward to showcasing the creativity and talent of these traders during the festive season.”
