Road Safety Day to take place in The Glass Works Square

The first Safer Roads Barnsley Day will take place on 28 May with an event held in The Glass Works Square.

Our free event will see traffic police, South Yorkshire Fire Service, air ambulance, reds in the community, Hope Charity, National Highways and more present from 9.30am to 3.30pm with residents able to get up close to the emergency services’ vehicles and learn about road safety.

The fire service will also hold a full cutting demonstration at 12pm to show how they would rescue someone from a car crash.

Also there on the day:

  • Take a look around the traffic police’s unmarked and marked cars, CCTV van and fire engines
  • Meet Oliver – Hope Charity’s counselling dog
  • Free bike checks from Barnsley Bike Works to make sure your bike is safe for the road
  • Free kid’s activities from Reds in the Community, Don’t Drive Daft and National Highways

Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:

“As part of our ongoing Safer Roads Barnsley partnership and Don’t Drive Daft road safety campaign, it’s great to see an event taking place for residents to directly engage with all of the services who help keep our roads safe.

“The day promises to be engaging, with live demonstrations and activities for all ages, and informative on how we all have a responsibility when it comes to road safety.”
