Two residents handed significant fines after fly-tipping in Athersley and Wombwell
Two fly-tippers have been arrested, prosecuted and fined for dumping their waste in Barnsley.
Jack David Naylor, 28, of Wharncliffe Street, Carlton was found responsible for fly-tipping building and household waste on land off Ollerton Rd, Athersley in September last year.
Mr Naylor’s van was seized as part of the investigation, and he was arrested after failing to attend court. He was fined £2,518 in total for the offence.
In a separate case, Louise Tasker, 34, of Roebuck Street, Wombwell was prosecuted for household duty of care offences after her waste was found fly-tipped on Pit Lane, Wombwell in May this year.
Ms Tasker was found to have not made necessary checks when disposing of the waste through a waste carrier and after failing to engage with the investigation, was arrested for failing to attend court.
She was fined a total of £807 for the offences.
Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said:
“I am pleased to see significant fines handed out to both Mr Naylor and Ms Tasker as part of our continued hard line against fly-tippers in the borough.
“We have zero tolerance for anyone who is found to be responsible for blighting Barnsley with fly-tipping, whether they have dumped the waste themselves or they have shown no duty of care when disposing of their waste.
“This behaviour will never be tolerated, and I would like to thank our wardens, the Safer Communities team and our litigation team for their continued help and hard work in these prosecutions.”
