We’ve achieved the Gold South Yorkshire Be Well @ Work Award

We’re pleased to achieve the Gold South Yorkshire Be Well @ Work Award. It comes as part of our ongoing commitment to improving our employees' health and wellbeing.

The award is designed to help businesses work towards and develop good practice in workplace health and wellbeing. In 2021, we were awarded the Silver level award which is reviewed every two years and on our most recent reassessment, we were delighted to be awarded Gold.

Colleagues from across the council have taken part in focus groups where their discussions with the external assessor confirmed that they are aware of the support and resources in place to support their wellbeing. Assessor feedback stated that wellbeing is high on the agenda, employees are informed and know where to access the relevant information.

A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in this process. We will use this feedback from our employees to develop our continuing wellbeing support programme.

Sarah Norman, Chief Executive for Barnsley Council, said: “This year has really shown us what our council is capable of, and we couldn’t do it without the dedication of our employees. The feedback we received was that working for and being a representative of the council is something that people are proud of, and this award is another great example of this.”

Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Core Services, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be receiving this award. Achieving the highest level of award is a testament to all the hard work we’ve seen across the council to promote the importance of mental health and workplace wellbeing.”

Employee health and wellbeing matters, and we’re working with businesses to access a range of support. You can find more information on our Be Well @ Work page.
