Young artists’ recycling artwork hits Barnsley’s streets
We’re excited to reveal the vibrant new artwork now brightening one of our bin lorries, designed by talented primary school pupils from across the borough.
The winning designs were created by Rosa from Milefield Primary School, Bella from Shafton Primary School, Megan from Greenfield Primary School, and Evelyn from Wombwell Park Street Primary.
Their fantastic artwork is now displayed on the lorry, sharing their colourful recycling messages with people across Barnsley.
To celebrate their achievements, the winners enjoyed a special tour of Barnsley Town Hall with the Mayor Cllr David Leech before going to view their artwork on the lorry. The Mayor congratulated them for their creativity and for using their designs to encourage residents to recycle the right things and look after the environment.
Barnsley Mayor Cllr David Leech said: “Meeting the young artists behind these amazing designs was a real highlight for me. Their ideas are colourful, clever and full of imagination, and it was wonderful to see their faces light up when they spotted their artwork on the lorry for the first time.
“I’m so proud that their recycling‑themed designs will be seen by thousands of people across Barnsley, inspiring others through the creativity of our children.”
Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, added: “Our young people have shown exceptional creativity, demonstrating just how passionate they are about looking after the environment.
“Their designs don’t just brighten our streets; they carry important messages about recycling and the small, everyday actions that make a real difference. Thank you to every child who took part for helping to champion a cleaner, greener Barnsley.”
