We’re moving to a new, modern facility at Gateway Plaza in September 2026. It will be the new home for Pathways to Work, Adult Skills and Community Learning, and the Targeted Information, Advice and Guidance service for young people.
If you’re unsure about the location, we can help with directions or talk it through with you before your first day.
If your question isn't answered on this webpage, please fill in the feedback form.
Where is the new building?
From September, your classes will take place at Gateway Plaza, Floor 6, Sackville St, Barnsley S70 2RF.
Floor 6 is the second floor of the building as there is car parking underneath. You will enter using the main doors into a reception area and then take the lift or stairs to Floor 6. We’ll have our own reception and waiting area when you arrive.
How do I get to Gateway Plaza from the bus station?
The walk from the bus station will take around 11 minutes.
Leave the bus station and walk up Regent Street (towards the Town Hall).
Walk past the Town Hall and fountains.
When you see Barnsley Sixth Form College ahead, turn right, then left onto Westgate.
Keep walking past the Courts and Lamproom Theatre.
You’ll see Gateway Plaza and the One Stop shop.
Go into the precinct area to the left of One Stop — the entrance is on your left.
Where are the nearest bus stops?
If you’re travelling from Penistone or Dodworth, you can get off near Barnsley Sixth Form College (about a 5–7 minute walk).
If you’re coming from other areas like Wombwell, Hoyland, Darfield, Athersley or Goldthorpe, you’ll arrive at Barnsley Interchange (bus station) and follow the walking route above (about 11-minute walk).
How do I get to Gateway Plaza by car?
Gateway Plaza has a car park underneath the building, including Blue Badge spaces. The car park is privately owned and all users must pay. Parking costs £1 per hour, or £5 if you stay for 5 to 12 hours. The car park is card payment only.
When you leave the car park, use the lift or stairs and go to the main entrance at the front of the building. If you have a Blue Badge and would prefer to use the lift straight to Floor 6, let us know and we can help arrange this.
There is also free alternative parking for Blue Badge holders.
Find alternative parking in Barnsley.
Will there be a waiting area on floor 6?
Yes, there will be a reception and waiting area on Floor 6.
Will the building reception area be staffed during lunch times and evenings?
Yes, the main building reception will be staffed.
What facilities are available?
On Floor 6, you’ll have access to toilets, a kitchen area with hot and cold drink facilities, fridge and microwaves. The Pastoral room can be used as a prayer room. The building is controlled by a heating and cooling system, and the windows can be opened.
Are class times staying the same and when do we start?
The timetables are prepared at the end of the summer term, so we can't give you exact details of classes just yet. Before your course starts in September, we will make sure that you have all the information you need about the dates and times of your classes.
Will there be any new courses on offer?
There are no additional courses planned at the moment.
What if I’m nervous about going to a new building?
We are happy to support anyone who is feeling nervous about coming to the new building. All information about the building, including the fire safety information, will be provided as part of your induction when you start your course. We will continue to make evacuation plans for anyone who needs one.
