How to pay your adult social care charges

If you're receiving care and support at home and have a direct payment in place, you should pay your client contribution as per your direct payment terms and conditions.

If we arrange your care and support, and you're required to contribute towards the cost, we'll send you an invoice every four weeks.

You have 30 days from the invoice date to make payment, unless you pay by Direct Debit.

If you pay by Direct Debit, we'll collect your payment automatically from your bank account every four weeks.

Payments are made in arrears, which means you pay for care and support after you've received it.

Ways to pay

You can pay your invoice in the following ways:

  • Direct Debit - this is the easiest way to keep your payments up to date

  • Standing order

  • Bank transfers - HOW?

  • Automated telephone line

  • Pay by phone with a person - HOW??????

Paying on behalf of someone else

If you're paying care fees on behalf of someone else, for example because you have lasting power of attorney, deputyship, appointeeship, or you manage their money, you must make sure payments are made on time and that their contract and financial details are kept up to date.

If you manage another person's finances and pay their care charges, you're responsible for making sure payments are made on time and their information is up to date.

Tell us as soon as possible if:

  • your authority to act changes

  • someone else becomes responsible for their finances

  • their circumstances change and this could affect what they need to pay.

If you don't pay on time

If we don't receive your payment by the due date, we'll send you a reminder letter.

If the account is not brought up to date, we'll issue further recovery correspondence.

If the balance remains unpaid, we'll contact you by phone or letter to discuss your account and find out whether you need any support to manage the payments.

If payment is not made, you don't contact us, or you don't keep to an agreed payment arrangement, we may take legal action to recover the money you owe.

Taking legal action may result in additional costs being added to the amount owed.

If you're having difficulty paying

Please contact us as soon as possible if you are having difficulty paying for you care charges.

We can discuss your circumstances, check whether the invoice is correct, and consider whether a suitable payment arrangement can be made.
