Affordable housing
Council housing
We have around 18,000 council homes which are managed by Berneslai Homes. As landlord, we've a legal duty from the regulator of social housing to make sure our properties are safe, well managed and meet the consumer standards. Berneslai Homes are paid by us to manage all of our properties. We assign key duties such as managing repairs, neighbourhood management, tenant engagement and much more. More details about our roles as landlord and Berneslai Homes as managing agent can be found on Berneslai Homes website.
Housing associations
There are affordable homes available to rent from housing associations such as:
- Together Housing
- Yorkshire Housing
- South Yorkshire Housing Association
- Guinness Northern Counties Housing Association
- Hanover Housing Association
- Habinteg Housing Association
- Acis Housing Group
- Places for People
You should contact the housing association directly to apply to join their waiting list.
Some housing associations advertise properties through the council’s choice-based letting scheme. Berneslai Homes also provide nominations to housing associations for some available properties. If you join the council house waiting list, you'll be able to bid for housing association properties advertised through the scheme.
Buying an affordable home
