Barnsley 10k entries open this Sunday
We’re excited to announce that the Barnsley 10k is returning on Sunday 28 June 2026. If you’d like to take part this year, you can sign up from Sunday 1 February at 5pm.
Organised by our Sport and Physical Activity team, the Barnsley 10k is a highlight of the local sporting calendar. It attracts runners of all abilities, including many taking part in their first ever running event, and draws thousands of spectators who line the streets to support them.
Last year’s race welcomed 1,846 finishers, including runners who had travelled from as far as Australia, alongside an impressive 1,610 entrants from Barnsley. Among the standout moments was 83 year old Bert Beaumont, who completed the course as the event’s oldest finisher. On the day, Luke Edwards took the overall win in 32:58, with Vicky Shaw the fastest female, finishing in 40:50.
We encourage local charities to use the event for fundraising, and we offer Barnsley based charitable organisations a special rate that provides 25 entries at a 50% discount. Over the last two years, more than 400 charity places have been taken up, raising over £40,000 so far.
Ahead of the day, all participants will receive an information pack with everything you need to know about taking part, and once you finish the race, you’ll receive a commemorative T-shirt and a medal.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: "The Barnsley 10k was a tremendous success once again last year, with people travelling from across the world to take part, alongside a huge number of local runners. The feedback we received was outstanding, and bringing the race back for 2026 was an easy decision.
"I’m confident we’ll see another sell out this year as runners of all abilities come together to take on the course and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere that Barnsley always delivers.
"Events like this are a brilliant opportunity for our residents to move more, live well and feel better, with physical activity proven to support both mental and physical health. It’s also a great chance to enjoy everything our town centre has to offer – from restaurants and cafés to the brilliant hospitality we’re known for – as friends and family turn out to give their support.
"So, whether you’re running for competition, fitness, fun or fundraising, make sure you mark your calendars for 5pm on Sunday 1 February when entries open. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back on Sunday 28 June 2026 for another fantastic Barnsley 10k."
For 2026, capacity is set at 2,200 entries through our event platform, RaceBest and places are expected to go fast. For more information about the Barnsley 10K and how to enter, go to Barnsley 10k.
