Barnsley’s Armed Forces Celebration Day returns with family activities, live entertainment, and the chance to see a Spitfire up close
We’re thrilled that our Armed Forces Celebration Day will be back on Saturday 20 June, bringing a fantastic family day out celebrating our armed forces to The Glass Works Square.
The celebrations will begin with a military parade at 10.30am, followed by a packed programme of free entertainment and activities running until 4pm.
One of the standout features of this year’s event is the chance to see a life-size Spitfire on display, offering a unique opportunity to see one of Britain’s most famous wartime planes up close and learn more about the iconic role it has played in history.
With something for all ages, the event features a packed programme of activities, including:
Live music and performances throughout the day
Military vehicles on display
A military parade
Family-themed activities, including a climbing wall and face painting
Bring the family, soak up the atmosphere, and help us celebrate in style – it’s a day not to be missed!
Cllr Stan Bryan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adult Social Care and Integrated Health, said:
“Our Armed Forces Celebration Day is a brilliant opportunity for the whole community to come together and show their support for our armed forces community, while enjoying a fantastic day out in our town centre. Armed Forces Celebration Day is always a special occasion in Barnsley’s calendar, and as a veteran myself, having served 24 years in the Royal Navy, it's one I'm particularly proud to support. There’s something for everyone throughout the day, and I really encourage families to come along, celebrate, and have a great day out.”
